Spending
See your spending pace, not just a total
Spending shows how much has gone out, how that compares with the same days of the period before, and exactly where it went, down to the shop.
Your pace against last month
Spending shows what you have spent so far and how it compares with the same days of the period before, so the middle of a month is never measured against a whole one.
Your running total is drawn against the last period’s. The space between them is green where you had spent less by that day and red where you had spent more. Hold a finger on the chart to read any day.
Wondering why? Ask from the card, and the answer comes from your own transactions.

Where it went, down to the shop
Every category shows its share of your spending and how it moved. Open one to see the kinds of spending inside it, like groceries or coffee shops, and the shops you paid.
Refunds come off what you spent in their category, and paying off a credit card is never counted as spending.
What you can do on Spending
Every figure on the screen describes the same set of transactions, whatever you narrow it to.
- Pick any period: this week, this month, last month, this year, a month by name, or dates you choose.
- Compare periods puts two periods side by side, including what you spent on in only one of them.
- Who you paid lists every shop, largest first, with a search.
- Filters narrows the whole screen to an account, a category or an amount.
- Hide amounts masks every figure when someone is looking over your shoulder.
- Ask explains a change from the card that shows it.
Questions about spending
More answers in the FAQ.
Does paying my credit card count as spending?
No. The purchases on the card were counted when you made them, so paying the card off is money moving between your own accounts, not new spending. Cashfield finds those payments from both ends and counts them once.
Do I have to set up a budget?
No. Cashfield sorts your transactions and shows where your money went without budgets or rules. If a category is wrong, fix it once and Cashfield files that shop the same way from then on.
What if a category is wrong?
Choose the right one on the transaction. Cashfield can file every charge at that shop the same way from then on, or change just that one.
Does it mix US and Canadian dollars?
No. Each currency keeps its own totals, so nothing is added together at a made-up rate. The currency you choose is shown first, and you can switch to the other.
